NEW YORK (AP)<\/strong> \u2014 The New York Yankees suffered more than just another loss on Saturday night \u2014 they also witnessed a scare involving their star slugger.<\/p>\n

During the fifth inning of the Yankees\u2019 12-6 defeat to the New York Mets at Citi Field on July 5, 2025<\/strong>, Aaron Judge was struck in the face by a toss<\/strong> from shortstop Anthony Volpe<\/strong> as the team was leaving the field. The incident added an unsettling moment to an already tough night for the Bronx Bombers.

Judge returned to the plate in the sixth inning with a small bandage beneath his right eye<\/strong>. Though a faint mark was visible, Judge later assured reporters: \u201cI\u2019m fine.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The accident occurred after Mets hitter Mark Vientos<\/strong> lined out to second baseman Oswald Peraza<\/strong>, ending the inning. As is tradition, the Yankees casually tossed the ball around while heading back to the dugout. Volpe, in what appeared to be a harmless move, lobbed the ball in Judge\u2019s direction. But Judge, jogging in from right field, was looking away at the time \u2014 and the ball struck him on the side of the face<\/strong>, knocking his sunglasses clean off.

\u201cYeah, I mean\u2026 confusion,\u201d said Yankees manager Aaron Boone<\/strong> postgame. \u201cI didn’t know what happened initially. Just saw something, like a sudden moment. Of course, I was concerned. He had a little cut. But in the end, thankfully, nothing serious.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, the freak accident became a moment of concern \u2014 and embarrassment \u2014 for a team already under pressure. Saturday\u2019s loss marked the Yankees’ sixth consecutive defeat<\/strong>, tying their worst streak of the season<\/strong>. They previously dropped six straight from June 13\u201318<\/strong>, making this the first time since 2000<\/strong> the team has endured two separate six-game losing skids in a single year<\/strong>.

\u201cIt\u2019s been a terrible week,\u201d Boone added bluntly.<\/p>\n

Speaking as the team\u2019s captain, Judge reflected on the team\u2019s recent slump:<\/p>\n
